WILKADENE HISTORY
Built in 1859 of locally quarried limestone, the old cottage on the property at Wilkadene was the head station of the old Murtho run. It was run by Edward Meade (Ned) Bagot, the owner of the great Ned’s Corner Station who made his fortune bringing cattle down to Adelaide. By 1860 big stockyards had been built here, and Bagot employed George Critchell as boundary rider. He and his family lived here for about twelve years until tragedy struck in 1869 and again in 1871 when their son and two daughters drowned. Their graves, along with that of their father, George (who also drowned) can be found on land adjacent to Wilkadene.
In the drought of 1876 Ned Bagot’s fortunes crashed and he lost his Ned’s Corner station as well as its Murtho Run, which subsequently changed hands several times. In 1906 Arthur Wilkinson took over the Murtho head station lease, and moved into the house with his wife Caroline on the day they were married. Arthur and Caroline lived in the old cottage where they raised six children until 1913 when they moved into the newly completed homestead now known as Wilkadene. Here they raised another four children including a daughter who died in infancy and is buried in the cemetery with the Critchell family. In the same year Arthur’s father, former owner of Lindsay Cliffs station (now known as Kulkurna) moved into his new homestead now known as Murtho Park.
In the early 1900’s the Wilkinson family ran the two properties until Arthur’s death in 1949 when the property was split between the two sons, Bill and Jim. Under the management of Jim Wilkinson, Wilkadene was a thriving wheat and sheep farm. After his tragic death in 1965, his widow Grace, took over the farm duties with distinction until 1988 when it was sold to the Freeman Family.

Book Accommodation
Can you keep a secret? We're pretty lucky here. Our venue is located on a quiet offshoot of the Murray River approximately 15km out of Renmark, so if you're looking for seclusion, this is it. Our beautifully presented Wilkadene Cottage is the perfect destination for your next tranquil holiday.
Our Brewing Process
Let's be honest, we're not gonna give away all our secrets, but we can tell you a little bit about the process that goes into brewing the best tasting beer you'll find this side of the black stump (which incidentally, is just up the road).
01
Select the Best Ingredients
To get an amazing product, you have to start with amazing produce. We choose only the highest quality hops and barley to go into our unique blends, ensuring we're creating some of the best craft beers in Australia.
02
Experienced Brewing Method
Truth be told, we were highly experienced beer drinkers before we became highly experienced beer brewers. We like to think that it's this love of creating new and interesting brews which is the key to what we do.
03
Final Craft Beer
There's nothing more satisfying than creating a new flavour which gets people excited. Our brewery is a community of beer lovers working to perfect our craft, and we'd love for you to join us!
What Our Customers Are Saying
What an awesome place to stop for the day! Had a real vibe going - friendly & happy. Great beer and grapefruit spritzer. Delicious Vietnamese food truck served some classic favourites. We moored our houseboat for the night - a truly lovely experience.
Carmen Leong
An awesome local brewery! Amazing location right next to the Murray River and set on a great piece of land. Off the highway it is secluded from the town of Renmark but is always busy as it's a great local attraction! Great local beer and alcoholic lemonade!! Also very pet friendly and the local dogs are a joy to play with. Recommend to go during warm weather and can enjoy the house boats in front of the brewery!
Foti Hatz
Best view at a brewery full stop. Great atmosphere and beers. Food available to make a cheese platter with olives and salami, and food trucks on the weekends also. A couple friendly dogs walking about. They have a courtesy bus operating but it is only a short drive on sealed roads from Renmark or drive the boat up to the bank. Get there anyway you can, it's worth it.
The Hornet Rider
We called into The Woolshed Brewery to enjoy a few beers. The beer was really good, but they also have a selection of others beverages if beer is not your thing. The staff were country style friendly. The setting so unique ... perfectly situated on a big bend on The Murray River. If you are looking for something to do Renmark way this could be just the place to while a way a few hours. Nice country pace, laid back.
